Success Stories - 2005

Baxter (aka Trapper)

Rescue 9-4-05
Adoption 9-20-05

Baxter's new family writes ....

Since the loss of our 14 year old retriever mix puppy, Blondie, in July we did not think that we would adopt another dog for a while, but as the weeks went by I think my wife and I missed having a critter to share our life with.  There is something to be said about the love they give, especially when you return from work after a hard day - the wagging tail solves many problems!

Our previous dogs have always come from a pound and they always were the greatest dogs.  I guess the thought never crossed our minds that there were rescue groups out there for specific breeds until we happened upon our first rescue group and that led to what seemed to be hundreds of groups.  After much looking and yes, frustration - some you would call and would get a answering machine that never seemed to return calls or the pet you would see was long gone.  One day I came across the Emerald Coast Golden Retriever Rescue Group on the internet and decided to take a chance and filled out an application - well, within 24 hours I had a phone call and was setup for an interview.  One thing led to another and we ended up with a 7 month old puppy - Baxter.  The past three weeks have been great - I don't know what the original owner was thinking to give up such a great dog.  He ranks right up there with every other critter that has crossed our doorstep.   He has become our shadow and wants to be involved in EVERYTHING that is done.  And Heaven forbid that you open a car door - he makes Gonzo (from the Muppets for those of you too young to remember) look like molasses in January.  He is in his seat, ready to go, even if it just backing the car out of the garage.  I think we forget that we are dealing with a puppy and anything that we expose him to that he likes, he will remember it and will lead the way if given a chance.

A GREAT big thanks to ECGRR for their efforts in finding our new addition.  Our lives are much fuller in every sense of the word!
