Abe #10058 Print E-mail

Nine-Year-Old Male
ADOPTED!
12-17-2010
* Special Needs

Meet sweet Abe.  This big boy epitomizes the golden temperament and deserves a home where he will be loved and spoiled for the rest of his life.  Abe is a Nine-Year-Old male golden who was surrendered to the local animal shelter by his owners due to divorce.  Sadly, this comment was put on his intake form and signed by his previous owner “OK to PTS (put to sleep)”.  Fortunately, ECGRR was called and this lovely boy has fallen from a rock to a soft place.

When Abe was picked up at the shelter by his new foster family, he was dirty, matted and smelled less than lovely.  They have mentioned how they wished they had taken “before” pictures to show what a diamond in the “ruff!” he is.

According to his intake form from the shelter, he had been an outside dog and he is good with other dogs and kids.  Nothing else is known about his history at this time.  At first he was reluctant to go into the house; now the foster family has a hard time getting him to go outside to do his business!  He's of the opinion now that indoor living agrees with him just fine.

Since the foster family has had Abe he has been a perfect gentleman.  While he may have been an outside dog, his manners have been impeccable.  He has had no accidents in the house and he does not get on the furniture or jump on anyone and they’ve yet to hear him bark.

He is a big love sponge and enjoys all kinds of physical attention: hugs, kisses, scratches, massage.  He doesn’t like to be alone, but doesn’t seem to have separation anxiety.  While he was very interested in the ladies when first introduced to the rest of our pack (all female), he respected their telling him to mind his own business and he has now stopped trying to court them.  Abe was neutered the day he was picked up from the shelter so his interest in the ladies will change with time.  He is up to date on his vaccines now as well.

Abe currently needs a dental cleaning and he has severe hip dysplastic, but shows no pain and seems to be able to get around very well.

Abe would do best in a quieter home, and would make an excellent companion for a mature household or one with older children.  He walks on a leash very well, but knows no basic commands.  The foster family will be working on basic obedience commands while they have him.

Abe needs a family or person who will understand the needs of a senior dog who has had a rough life and will keep up with his medical and nutritional needs.  If you feel you have the love to give this great senior, then just fill out the online adoption application and ask for "Abe".

I'm a wise "Golden"

Will I ever find the forever home they mention?
