Cali #10004 Print E-mail

One to Two-Year-Old Female
ADOPTED!

Caliente, Cali to her friends, is a super-sweet, petite 1.5 year old Golden Retriever who was kept outside and about to be put to sleep due to a skin condition until she was happened upon and rescued by a loving reporter with the Pensacola News Journal. Katie King called us about this wonderful girl and delivered her right to the door of her new foster home and now she is the focus of an ongoing story about her recuperation over the next months.

After regaining her strength from her skin disorder, which turned out to be a non-contagious type of mange and a severe staph infection, she has become the most appreciative and precious little pooch you can imagine. It is simply amazing to see how her spirit, and her trust in people, was undeterred by her experience with neglect and illness. When we first met she had been kept outside in the cold and now makes up for it by snuggling and tucking her snout in close to her human, canine and feline friends at every opportunity. It is sweet to watch her try to squeeze into the pet bed with whatever dog or cat is already there and even sweeter when she backs up slowly to get a running start and jump onto the bed in the morning.

Cali loves to run and play and does fine off-leash, as she stays very close to her pack at all times. She doesn't like being alone and shows a bit of separation anxiety but is not destructive at all. She would prefer to have a stay-at-home Mom or Dad but may be fine with other nice dogs and cats to keep her company. She has finished her treatments and has a clean bill of health but will still be growing her fur back for several months; however, she does not mind wearing her jammies to keep her back warm in the meantime. You would have a very hard time finding a sweeter gentler little girl than Miss Caliente'.

If you think you have the perfect home for Cali please fill out an adoption application and mention her by name. Don't forget to check the News Journal in print and online to see how her story unfolds.
