Nine-Year-Young Male
*Special Needs
ADOPTED!

UPDATE 3-17-2010

Teddy's foster family decided that they wanted to be his forever home - he had become such a member of the family they just couldn't let him go.  He recently was diagnosed with severe tooth decay in several areas of his mouth and extractions of a number of teeth were required ... resulting in the new name of Gummy Bear!

Here's what Teddy's Foster family has to say about him:

Teddy's hair has finally grown out from the "hair-cut" he received when we first rescued him.  He is very handsome with a puppy like face.  He is a very happy dog, constantly wagging his tail.  He's a senior so he doesn't really play or have favorite toys, but loves to go on walks, be brushed and chew on his rawhides.  He gets along with everyone!

He has been on Glucosamine and Chondroitin for several months and we have seen a significant improvement in his mobility. When camping in our 20 acre forest, he keeps up with our other three heathens, chasing squirrels, deer, elk, and moose.

When he needs to go out, he will tell you by jumping up a few inches on his front paws and "grunting".  He is so cute and loveable with those big brown eyes.  Recently our 16 year old cat has allowed him to bond with her.

The only real difficulty Teddy has is getting into cars.  So he'll need a little help to get in.  Other than that, he is self sufficient, very respectful and well mannered.  Did I say he loves to go on walks?

Handsome Boy Teddy Bear January 2010

Teddy is a nine-year-young golden/chow mix, weighing approximately 50 lbs.

Here is what Teddy’s foster Mom says about him:

"Teddy is always happy with his tail wagging while dusting everything in sight.  He’s a real sweetheart.  Teddy walks well on a leash.  He gets along well with other dogs and cats and he will very gently take treats from your hand."

We have found that Teddy has severe hip dysplasia and arthritis on his spine.  Teddy will be on glucosamine and chondroitin tablets and Deramaxx for the rest of his life.  The good news is there is a significant improvement in his movement in just a few days!   As you can tell from these photo's Teddy has a summer haircut!  Teddy has also been nuetered.

Teddy rides well in the car, but needs a little help to get in.  However, he doesn’t need help to get out of a car.  Teddy goes up and down the stairs fine.  It’s quite endearing to watch Teddy keep his hind legs ogether hopping up and down the stairs.  It does not appear to cause him pain or discomfort.  He has learned to live with his disability quite well.  He is truly a sweet dog and just needs someone to love and care for him.

Did you say something?

I feel so naked!

UPDATE: Teddy has completed his heartworm treatments.  He is growing his hair back in and becoming a handsome old gentelman.
