Success Stories - 2005

Sassy

Rescued  23-March-05
Adopted 01-May-05

Everyone, meet Sassy!  She is a beautiful Golden who came to ECGRR from PAWS.  Sassy was surrendered by her second set of owners who just didn't have time for her after she was a part of their family for a year and a half.  Sadly, many of our dogs are surrendered due to lack of time or commitment of time by their owners.  Sassy, however, being the lady that she is didn't let this get her down.  She knew someone would love her and her soon to be discovered secret obsession.

Richard and Judy from Tallahassee were the lucky couple.  They had suffered the lost of their previous Golden Emma a few months prior and were looking for another.  When they met here in Niceville at the dog park and Sassy flashed that beautiful Golden smile, they were an instant family.  Sassy was off to Tallahassee with a new time zone and a new family.  The couple hours drive gave Sassy time to contemplate how and when she would reveal her secret obsession to the new family.  She knew that the sooner she let them know, the sooner they could all deal with it and move on.  She decided that within the first few days she would sit them down and they could discuss it like adults.  She was in fact 8 years old and needed to deal with her issues in an adult manner.

Sassy has settled into her new home wonderfully. She obeys extremely well and loves her new 2 acres of backyard to play in.
Judy has told us that she runs like a champion racehorse and acts much younger then her 8 years.  She sleeps under the bed at night with her tail sticking out so nobody can see her!

Sassy did confess her obsession.  With a deep breath she let it be known.  I LOVE TO CHASE SQUIRRELS!  Yes folks, you heard right.  Sassy is obsessed with chasing squirrels up the tree.  She will stand at the back door watching all of them come down from the trees and when she feels  there are enough to chase she goes and gets Judy and lets her know it's time to go on "Squirrel Round-up."  Judy tells us that Sassy won't  go unless Judy is out there watching every exciting minute of the action.  Each time she successfully sends one back up the tree, she will looks to Judy for applause.  Apparently having an audience and cheers is half the fun!  Sassy continues with the "Round-Up"  until every last squirrel is back where they belong, in the top of the tree.   Sassy hopes that someday Squirrel Round-Up is an Olympic event.  The Olympic committee is reviewing the request.

Thank you Richard and Judy for giving Sassy her forever home.  We know you will all build forever memories.
