Success Stories - 2005
Earnhardt Rescued 23-Feb-05 Adopted 22-May-05 Well, you have heard of the Mandrel Sisters, the Three Stooges and the Three Tenors but there's a new trio in town, taking Florida by storm and here they are......The Cluster Babies!! Individually known as Earnhardt, Charlie and Hansel. Earnhardt came to ECGRR from a shelter in Brewton, AL. He was surrendered by his original owner due to lack of time. Upon intake into our program, Earnhardt was heartworm positive, weighed only 41lbs. and was an extremely frightened and skiddish 4 year old boy. But to tell this story we must also tell you about the wonderful women named Trudy who opened her heart and her home to Earnhardt after a tragic accident. Trudy was born in Germany and raised in Czechoslovakia. While she is of retirement age and could be enjoying her days playing Bingo and sipping Mint Julep's on her front porch, she continues to work a full time job and rescues dogs from their doomed fate. Trudy got in touch with ECGRR after she suffered a tragic loss. You see, Trudy had personally rescued Jake, a 3 year old Golden who had been left in the backyard of a neighbors house. Jake had never left Trudy's yard after she took him in. With 7 1/2 acres to play in there was never any reason to leave. However, one day, Jake heard a truck coming down the road, and without any rhyme or reason, he ran into the street. Jake was hit. With an emergency trip to the vet, the news was not good. Jake had suffered a broken back. Not wanting to see Jake suffer, Trudy instructed the vet to put Jake to sleep so he could be at peace. The days following Jake's death were not only hard physically and emotionally but spiritually. Trudy tells us that she could not understand why God had taken her dog from her after only 4 short months when she had done such a good thing by rescuing him. Trudy says she had once been told that when you don't understand something always look at "the bottom line." When she did that, the bottom line contained Earnhardt. After reading Earnhardt's story on our website, Trudy knew he was the dog for her. And so the story goes, Earnhardt now lives with Trudy and his two, also rescued brothers, Charlie and Hansel. Although Earnhardt is a Golden his brothers are pure "Heinz 57's". Mixed with a little bit of everything. Trudy has affectionately named them The Cluster Babies because the three of them are always together. Trudy, your story has truly touched our hearts. For someone to have the strength and courage to accept another needy Golden into her heart after such a tragedy, loss, and sorrow, makes you a very special person. From all of us, to you, Thank You and God Bless.
