Success Stories - 2005
Riley Rescued 23 March 2004 Adopted 10 April 2004 Riley was found wondering the roadside in Niceville. Cold, alone, no family to call her own, and not a dime to her name, a good samaritan picked her up and turned her over to PAWS. ECGRR was contacted and went down to see Riley. It was a rainy day, with thunder crashing and lightning popping. Riley was obviously nervous when we arrived. It could have been from all the noise in the shelter from the other dogs, the storm, or wondering if we would rescue her and where her assigned seat would be on the Ark! After leaving the shelter and getting about 10 miles down the road, we turned around and got her out of there! She was SO excited at this point she didn't care where she sat on the Ark. Riley spent a couple of weeks in a Foster Home until her adoptive family could arrive from Illinoise. Her Foster Dad reported that every morning without fail, within a minute of 6:30am she would drop a toy on his head! Some of us wake up to an alarm clock, others to a concussion! Rileys new adoptive Dad Russ arrived in town and met Riely at the park. Minutes before the big meeting, and wanting to make a good impression on her new Dad, Riley and her canine foster brother found a mud puddle and decided to have a last minute make-over. Covered in mud, she met Russ and it was love at first sight. Daddy Russ thought she was beautiful and just had to have her. As you can see from her pictures Riley has fit right into her new family. She now has a canine brother Bosco who is a 12 year old chocolate lab and a new canine sister named Taffy who is a 4 year old Golden. Russ told us that it did not take long for Riley to learn her boundries on the 1 1/2 acres of land she now calls home, and Tug of War game was also quickly discovered. Rileys sister Taffy is a Registered Therapy Dog working for the Delta Society. These dogs go to area hospitals and retirement homes and brighten the days of residents they come to see. According to Russ, the training to be accepted into this program is intense for the dogs, however, the overwhelming joy the visits bring to the residents and the dogs makes it all worth the hard work. Riley will begin her training May 2, 2004. Thank you Russ for adopting Riley and making her a part of your family. She will bring many years of joy to all she encounters.
