Help us help Abigail!  Abigail came to us after being hit by a car and left to die. ECGRR was contacted and rushed to the rescue.  This sweet girl has now had 7 surgeries - both her back legs are fractured - and will need a great deal of expensive care and rehab.  Despite her ordeal, she is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever seen.  CLICK HERE to read Abigail's story.

• Louie Print E-mail

10 year old male
ADOPTED!

This handsome guy is Louie.  Poor Louie was picked up as a stray and left at a kill shelter to be euthanized because the shelter thought he was too old to be put up for adoption.  In addition, Louie was somewhat of a mess - he was so thin that he was basically skin and bones, he had an eye infection, an upper respiratory infection, skin infections, and he is also heartworm positive.  During the time he was in the shelter, he went from being a friendly, happy boy to a dog who was so depressed that he couldn't walk to the front of the run to greet visitors.

It was at this point that one of our wonderful ECGRR volunteers found Louie.  Many people or rescues may have decided that bringing Louie back to health would be more trouble and expense than it was worth.  Fortunately, ECGRR is not made up of that kind of people!  There comes a point where the rubber meets the road, so to speak, and we all remember why we are involved in rescue - we're here for the dogs that really need us.  And if ever a dog needs us, it's Louie.

This huge boy (in the picture above, Louie is on the right - the dog on the left is a regular size adult Golden Retriever) deserves to have the love and the care that has been denied him in the past.  He's now in a loving foster home and is truly coming out of his shell.  His health is improving and his infections are clearing up.  He is building his strength up for his heartworm treatment and will soon be looking for the special home that will love and cherish him for the rest of his life.  His foster mom reports that his personality is starting to come out and that he is even starting to play with his foster brothers.  This is what she has to say about him:

"Lou is a true velcro dog who loves to lay right by your feet. He is a large guy, weighing in at 90 lbs (still needs to gain more). Every once in a while he gets frisky and play swats at his foster brother. He loves going to the dog park to walk around and greet all the people he meets. He does want to chase cats but he can't really run much so it is doubtful he can catch them. Although he walks slow, Lou really loves his walks and gets super excited. He likes looking for lizards and I did find out that he doesn't eat them but sort of plays with them. He has great manners, can't jump on you, walks slow so he is great on a leash, can't get on any furniture either. Hope to start heartworm treatment by the end of May and then if all goes well maybe he will be ready for a forever home the end of July."

Look at that Golden Grin!  That doesn't belong to a dog whose life is over - it belongs to a dog who is happy to be alive and be with people he feels safe with.  He's truly a "velcro" Golden and is happiest when he's getting someone to give him a little bit of affection.

Louie has a long and expensive road ahead of him, but we're determined to make every day better and better for this gentle giant.  if you'd like to help with Louie's medical expenses, please visit our donation page by CLICKING HERE.  If you think that you might be able to provide a loving forever home for this wonderful guy, please complete an adoption application and mention him by name.  You'll never be sorry that you gave this noble dog a chance for happiness.  And with a dog this special, you can never be sure who rescues whom!

Lucky Louie was adopted by his foster family!!
